Teaching/Learning Initiative
As is reflected in the AAHSL mission, academic health sciences libraries actively participate in the teaching programs of their home institutions, particularly where learning objectives focus on the acquisition and application of information management skills. In 2007 an AAMC/IIME Report Response Task Force was appointed to assess and respond to the work of AAMC's Institute for Improving Medical Education and recommendations it issued in 2004. The AAHSL task force (aka, the GEA Task Force) produced a report and recommended targeted collaborative endeavors be established with the Association of Academic Health Centers, AAMC's Group on Educational Affairs and its Group on Information Resources, the American Medical Informatics Association, and regional groups of Libraries in Medical Education. The AAHSL Board of Directors endorsed this document and quickly created the working bodies described below to pursue vigorously these partnerships and to begin activating an implementation plan.
During 2008 AAHSL has pushed forward with various tasks on the implementation plan while engaging in dialog and negotiation with prospective collaborating organizations. These efforts are coordinated by the following bodies, whose activities are detailed on the web pages found at the links below. The overall scope of AAHSL's initiatives and the specific plans for accomplishment will continue to be refined as we engage in further discussions and reach mutual agreement with key partners.
